Quinceanera Tiaras
By ericabrooks
A Quinceanera is a coming of age party for a young girl turning 15 years
old. It is celebrated in most Latin American countries and those of
Latin American heritage living anywhere around the world. Quinceaneras
have become as commonplace as Sweet 16 parties and proms. Some
quinceaneras can be smaller, more informal gatherings comprised of
family and friends at the young girl's house, while others are elaborate
and elegant balls held in a posh hotel. No matter what style of party
the family chooses to plan, it is important the the girl feels like a
princess for a day. For this reason, quinceanera tiaras are extremely
popular.
The tiara plays a significant role in the celebration. It symbolizes the
transition from a young girl to a young woman who is no longer a child.
Quinceaneras are also seeped in tradition in a religious sense as many
choose to wear the crown to symbolize their dedication as one of God's
princesses. The tiara represents the crown Jesus wore on the cross, only
with a positive appeal due to the joy and faithfulness the girl
possesses due to her willingness to live for him.
The most traditional quinceaneras begin in a religious location such as a
church. At this time, she will not be wearing her tiara but instead, a
crown of flowers. The beautiful flowers represent their innocence and
purity to God that a child exhibits. After the ceremony in which the
quince girl has made her vows to God and their families, the crown of
flowers is exchanged for an elegant quinceanera tiara.
The transition from flowers to tiaras symbolizes many changes for the
quince girl. First, the transition from girl to woman is complete in a
spiritual sense. Second, the girl is seen as a princess to God in the
eyes of the church as opposed to a child. Finally, the tiara
distinguishes her from the other females in her court and the other
females at the reception.
Oftentimes, the quince girl will not have seen her tiara before the big
day. Generally, the parents or godparents pick out a tiara that they
believe represents their daughter because they are the ones that
exchange the flowers for the crown. While there are traditional
quinceanera tiaras that the adults may opt for with ease, there are just
as many unique quinceanera tiaras that may better suite their
individual daughter or goddaughter.
The traditional quinceanera tiaras are comprised of two bands of an
antique silver metal with sparkling crystals. It comes to a V shape
above the brow, and are often relatively simple in design due to the
inexperience the girl has at being a woman. Tiaras in Latin America
become more elegant as the woman who is wearing them grows in experience
and wisdom. However, there are many variations of the quinceanera
tiara, as well as many styles that stray from this traditional design as
simplicity is not a strict rule when it comes to the quinceanera tiara.
Various embellishments can be found on quinceanera tiaras. Anything from
rhinestones to precious stones to pearls can garnish the piece of
beauty. Other types of metal can also be used aside from silver: gold,
platinum, or a less expensive plated metal. Even though the traditional
shape is of a V on top, there is no reason why the quince girl cannot
wear a headband tiara or a style without an elevation. The most
important aspect of the tiara is that the girl feels like the princess
she is while she is wearing it.
Quinceaneras are often viewed as extremely feminine parties. However,
not all quince girls are excited by sparkles and dresses and a ball-like
setting. Quince tiaras are available in colors that diminish the glitz
and glam associated with the accessory. The girl may appreciate a tiara
with subdued pearls on a blue or green metallic frame. A girl who is
extremely feminine may wish to have a tiara encrusted with faux gems on a
frame with great height. The flowers of the party will wilt and the
pictures may fade, but she will keep the tiara as a momento of the day
she became a woman.
The quinceanera tiaras have become quite commonplace in many dress
stores and wedding stores. While some of the tiaras will be labeled as
the traditional quinceanera, others will be unlabeld as they can be worn
for proms, weddings, parties, and quinceaneras. Another popular way to
acquire a tiara is by shopping online. The options are far more
expansive, but the downfall is that pictures may sometimes be deceiving.
For this reason, make sure that the parents or godparents (whoever will
be crowning the quince girl) prepares in advance regarding the tiara.
It is an important part of a very important day that the girl will
cherish forever.
